Weyerbacher's double simcoe is local to me. I like that variety of hop. Good stuff!

I was about to say, that is one hell of a blow off tube!

Did I miss something, or is there not an airlock on that carboy?

It's called a blow off hose... Which it turns out I didn't need with this brew. Certain strains of yeast will create a lot of krausen which can clog air locks and blow them off, creating a big mess. You run the hose into a bucket of sanitizer to create an air lock.

See the comment thread I started. It makes sense now.

Neato. My brother in law made a blow off tube that still has the standard airlock at the end, and I've never seem him (and my sister) use it for anything under 8-9%. The more you know.

Slight hijack... If there are any of you in the Northern Va area that homebrew and would like some 1.5 liter Magnum bottles, perfect for cutting down the number of caps you need to apply, I have a bunch extra. They are also great for stuff that you want to set aside and age. I bought a ton of Anchor Holiday brew when it was on sale, and have more glass than I can use. Of course, I wouldn't be opposed to any donations from your previously brewed stock.

Last Chance IPA is awesome. Their Cameloparadis (Spelling?) limited release right now blows the doors off anything else I've had in a long time. Swing down there and get some.
my dad bought a case of blithering idiot
And a mixed case with cameloparadis and merry monks, among others
And didn't realize Riserva only came in bombers, so he got 6 of those too, without meaning to
176 dollars of "Don't tell your mom" deliciousness.

I don't normally, but I'm not used to Nottingham yeast... So I thought I'd go safe.

I'm not real far away from you, but I've not bottled in like 3 years.

Excellent. I wasn't meaning to judge or demean, btw. In case my first post came off harshly. Good luck with the brew.

I saw the keg, figured that was the case. It is nice though if you brew anything that you want to leave in a hole for a few years though. I have a RIS in secondary right now; about 3 weeks ago I oaked it, and will most likely bottle here soon. I will probably take a few of those and hide them for the next year or two.

I assumed you were curious. I try to always give people the benefit of the doubt and assume they meant their comments in the most positive way interpretable.

I still have some bombers hanging out in case I brew something big that I could age. But laziness always wins. Plus I brew for others as much as for myself... And most people prefer the easy drinking beers. Hence the Amber Ale and my Rye Blonde session IPA that I make a few times per year.

Gotcha, I have not seen that method in my (very limited) home brew research. Hope it comes out great, it's making me thirsty.

I would. Aging is very interesting... It really makes some beers.

Me too. I'm getting low on my other keg!
